(At the following of what we did last time)
In the video,
he mentions famous African-American figures who were civil rights activists during
the 1960s: Mohamed Ali, MLK and Malcolm X. Obama refers to them because they
are role models and also a source of inspiration for Obama to achieve his main
goals.
According to
Obama, race relations issues are not a problem related only to the USA, it is a
human problem. In fact, people have suspicions
and assumptions towards one another because of constructed segregation that is
fed because of these suspicions, it is a vicious circle and is a persistent
problem nowadays.
The goal of
the video is to show Obama’s outlook on race relations and his intentions
regarding the reasons why he wanted to become the first African-American president.
Besides, Obama could be seen as an exceptional candidate
at the time because there were no African-American presidents before him. On top of that, as a mixed child he could be the bridge
to reconcile both communities to help people becoming more open-minded regarding cultural differences.
