Unit 4: Black Lives Matter (Tle G1_Gr2)

 (At the following of what we did last time)



In the video, he mentions famous African-American figures who were civil rights activists during the 1960s: Mohamed Ali, MLK and Malcolm X. Obama refers to them because they are role models and also a source of inspiration for Obama to achieve his main goals.

According to Obama, race relations issues are not a problem related only to the USA, it is a human problem. In fact, people have suspicions and assumptions towards one another because of constructed segregation that is fed because of these suspicions, it is a vicious circle and is a persistent problem nowadays.

The goal of the video is to show Obama’s outlook on race relations and his intentions regarding the reasons why he wanted to become the first African-American president. Besides, Obama could be seen as an exceptional candidate at the time because there were no African-American presidents before him. On top of that, as a mixed child he could be the bridge to reconcile both communities to help people becoming more open-minded  regarding cultural differences.
