Unit 4: Black Lives Matter (Tle G1_gr2)
Making History
The document
under study is a timeline of famous African Americans who made history by being
the first African Americans to achieve these actions.
Barack Obama
being elected as the first African-American president is the most outstanding achievement
because it is the most important role in the American government that Americans
cannot ignore.
Guy Bluford’s
achievement is remarkable because he did not only made history by being the
first black person to do something, but also because he took part to one of the
most renowned mission in the space race.
The famous
athletes, Tommy Smith and John Carlos’ protest is very outstanding because what
they did required a lot of courage.
Cora Brown,
as being the first African-American woman elected in Senate at the time when
segregation was predominant. This was impressive.
Claudette
Colvin, by refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger 9 months before R.
Parks did it set the trend of action for the civil rights movement.
At the time
when these actions occurred it gave hope and inspired many people. They must
have felt very proud of their success.
Nowadays, we
can say that the situation has changed in some ways, for example we can see
more and more black people in high positions in politics.
However,
some cases show that the situation has not really changed in some fields, in
the military for example Trump stripped away the pages that dealt with African
Americans who were rewarded for having contributed to the well-being of the country
just because according to him, he claimed that they were hired because of their
ethnic group (affirmative action/DEI policies that Trump denounces).
Homework: Learn the lesson.
Choose another African-American history maker and present them briefly orally.
Hence,
African Americans still have to fight in order to keep
their social status intact.
