Unit 4: Black Lives Matter (Tle G1_gr1)

(at the following of what we did last time)

In the video, Obama mentions famous African-American figures who were civil rights activists such as Malcolm X, MLK and Mohamed Ali. He mentions them because for him they are role models and a source of inspiration to achieve his goal.

According to Obama, race relations issues are a human problem not only related to the USA. Indeed, people assume and suppose that through their way of living they are superior than other groups of people. On top of that, institutions such as schools, churches… enhance the inequalities and the segregation among a group. Besides, it can work as a filter bubble and reinforce people’s vehement behaviors towards one another.

The goal of the video is to shed light on Obama’s intentions to become the first African-American president in order to erase the stereotypes or preconceived ideas/notions that people have on one another.

To conclude, we can say that Obama was an exceptional candidate for this job as being a mixed child growing up in a multicultural world; he was the bridge between both worlds. He had the legitimacy to reconcile both worlds and create a better one. Furthermore, thanks to his travels he could understand better people’s issues to find a way to solve them.
