Unit 1: Social Networks (1ère Générale)
The Rise of Facebook
The document under study is an extract from an article, published in December 2010 in Time magazine. It was written by Lev Grossman. The main theme is about how the famous social media, Facebook, has changed people’s lives.
We have
learned about the origins of this social media
platform: Mark Zuckerberg is the one who created it. He was a student at
Harvard at the time when he created a social
network that was made to connect students on this campus in 2004. It was
called “thefacebook.com”.
Then,
the website became famous and spread through different American universities
before hitting the whole wide world.
Therefore,
in 2010, he was elected person of the year for creating a new system that helped more than half a billion people to be
connected.
Indeed,
he created a new way to communicate with one another, with short and instant messages.
To
conclude, Facebook has changed the way people communicate
and our social relationships and interactions as it has become part of
our daily lives.
