top of that, they were taking drugs that was also seen as threat
for the common good of the American society.
Besides, Hippies disregarded the norms of the American society by
creating their own way of living. They were influenced by rock’n’roll music and
by a man named Timothy Leary that they took as their leader. In addition, they rejected the work ethic and they
would prefer embrace eastern philosophies and religions that were unknown by
Americans.
The most important event
when the Hippies were mostly seen was in the summer of 1967 when they settled
in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury district, where they spent their time listening
to music, spending time together… It was known as the Summer of Love.
Eventually, they could not be
hippies forever because they were hit by reality when they had to take their
responsibilities. Some had families to take care of, therefore,
they had to have a job to pay the bills and so on… That’s how the movement ended,
when they all had to go back to the normal life and follow the norms of the
mainstream society.
