The Woodstock Festival
The document
under study is an article published in 2019, in the San Diego Union-Tribune. It
deals with the 50th anniversary of the famous music festival:
Woodstock. This event was the most
famous rock festival with young rock music fans. It took place in New York State
in August 1969. Even though the weather was very bad (rainy and muddy), and
there was a lack of organization as there were too many people attended the
festival, everything went well.
The people
present were very satisfied with the festival, especially the artists because
for some of them it was the first time performing in front of such a huge
crowd. Moreover, they all felt a sense of
harmony and unity there despite the social and political tensions at the time. In fact, in that period, there were different sources
of tensions in the country, such as the murders
of JFK and MLK, the women’s movement and the rise of police brutality. On top of that, on the international level, there was the
Vietnam War.
To
conclude, according to the text, people felt touched and
changed by this event that sanctified the union of Americans against violence
and chaos. For the audience, this event had a big impact on their lives because
it was a mythical and unforgettable experience.
