Unit 2: The Crown at a Crossroads (2nde_gr2)

 Grandmother of Europe

The second document under study is a video about Queen Victoria from Britannica. We have learned that Victoria was seen as a good and caring mother for her children. Besides, she also saw all of her subjects as her sons and daughters.  She saw herself as the mother of her colonies but also as the grandmother of Europe.

Her name is assimilated to an entire era known as the Victorian Era. On top of that, she made the UK a colonial empire. Moreover, during her reign, the UK economy was prosperous.

However, during her reign there were some revolutionary movements in the British colonies, some of them even over turned the reign of the British Empire in the concerned lands.

Her reign contributed to the rise of the “ceremonial monarchy” because Queen Victoria would make some tours in the different colonies to represent the UK. She was the emblem of the British Empire all across the world. She is also known as the British monarch who had the longest reign: 63 years.

Homework: Learn the lesson.
