Native American Timeline

40,000 to 11, 000 years ago: The first Native Americans immigrated to North America.

8,000 years ago: N.A. started to cultivate vegetables and plans (corn, sunflowers…

In 300: they created the bow and the arrow to hunt.

In 1492: Christopher Columbus traveled from Spain to discover the Americas.

Early 1600’s: there conflicts between the Europeans and the N.A.

In 1607: Jamestown was founded in Virginia by English colonists.

1700-1800: for a 100 years, diseases and wars with the European massively killed the N.A.

1709: Native Americans were sold as slaves in New York, enslaved by white people.

1848: A huge massacre of N.A. in California during the Gold Rush.

1870: Bison were nearly extinct: crisis.

1871: The Indian Appropriation Act by the government to take sway/to have power over NA’s lands.

1872: The number of NA dropped from 300,000 to 30,000.

1924: NA had the right to vote in the USA.

From the 1930s to the 1990s: NA won the right to govern themselves.
