Unit 2: No Thanks, No Giving (1ère G_gr1)
Thanksgiving on the Pilgrims’ side.
The document under
study is an extract from an encyclopedia published in 1994. It is about one
side of the original story of Thanksgiving, the Pilgrims’ point of view. We have
learned that the settlers organized their Thanksgiving
celebration because they were grateful/thankful for
their abundant harvest composed of various
vegetable and a few sea dishes. Furthermore, they
felt thankful and free to be able to worship their God without being persecuted.
Nevertheless, the text sheds
light on the existing tensions between the Native Americans and the colonists at the time. For
example, the colonists considered the
Native Americans as savages. Indeed, they had a dehumanized vision of the Native Americans.
