The Nobel Peace Prize 1993 was awarded to both Nelson Mandela and FW De Klerk because they both worked for the end of Apartheid and made South Africa a democratic country.

To conclude, South Africa is nicknamed the “Rainbow nation” because it is a metaphor with the word “rainbow” with its different colors and it is linked to unity between people from different communities. With the end of Apartheid, South Africa gained this nickname to symbolize the end of this difficult period. It is to symbolize peace and a bright future for all whatever their color of skins.
