Claudette Colvin: Civil-Rights Activist

The document under study is an article from Speakeasy news published on January 15th 2026. It deals with Claudette Colvin’s story. Indeed, this article pays tribute to her life and legacy because she died/passed away 2 days prior the publication of this article. We have learned that her protest was a spontaneous one because she was inspired by two famous women anti-slavery activists: Sojourner Truth and Harriet Tubman.

After she was arrested her father decided to stay up at night with shotgun to ensure his daughter safety against the KKK.

Rosa Parks’ arrest did not lead her to the Supreme Court unlike Colvin and three other women who did the same. It was the Browder v. Gayle case that ended segregation in the transport system in the South.

Homework: Learn the lesson.
