As they were not expected that many people it could have been a disaster, but finally it was a success thanks to the participants who were helping one another/each other. This festival is one of the most famous rock festival: its success was due to the fact that it occurred only once people talked about a once in a life time experience. There were famous artists such as Santana or Jimmy Hendrix. There were also lots of young unknown artists that were revealed there to the public.

Moreover, it was not only a music event but also a political one. Indeed, at the time, there were the assassinations of MLK and the Kennedy brothers, minorities were victims of police violence plus the mass protests against the Vietnam War. People were living in an atmosphere of unrest and fear.
