Unit 5: Consious Art (1ère AMC)
(At the following of what we did last time)
People were
shocked and surprised by this action.
The
journalist even said that people at the auction got “Banksy-ed”. It means that they
got pranked by Banksy’s action as they were unaware of what would happen
to the piece of art.
Afterwards,
Banksy posted a video of himself on Instagram revealing how he elaborated his prank. He even quoted Picasso: “The urge to
destroy is also a creative urge”. In fact, he booby-trapped (a hidden prank)
a painting frame in case one of his piece of art would be sold at an auction.
Through this action,
Banksy wanted to denounce social injustice and consumerism
in the world of art.
As
a result, the final price of this stunt
could bring him a minimum of 5 million dollars and it can even go up to
7 million dollars.
